Crucified King

What kind of King wears a crown of thorns and reigns from a cross? In Mark 15:16–39, Jesus is mocked, beaten, stripped, and crucified. The soldiers laugh. The crowds hurl insults. The religious leaders demand that He save Himself. Then darkness covers the land, Jesus cries out, and the temple veil is torn from top to bottom. But beneath the horror of the cross, Mark reveals a sobering truth: Jesus cannot save Himself and save sinners at the same time. His refusal to come down is not weakness—it is the power of His love. The cross is not where Jesus lost His crown. It is where He revealed it. This message invites us to slow down, stand beneath the cross, and behold the King who carried our judgment, endured our shame, and was forsaken so that we would never have to be. And like the Roman centurion who watched Jesus die, each of us must decide whether we will make the same confession: “Truly this man was the Son of God.”
